this is a step by step of how to make a pom pom with a pom pom maker... :D
you will need...a pom pom maker, yarn and scissors...
start by opening up the pom pom maker by pulling one
side of the half moons (there are two half moons but you will want
to wrap them together as one) away from the center circle...
take the end of your yarn and start wrapping it around and around the half
moon...the more times you wrap the yarn the fuller your pom pom will be...
wrap, wrap, wrap...
after you have wrapped the yarn many times, close the half moons
back to the center to make a circle once again...pull the yarn
through to the other side and open the other side of half moons...
repeat the prior steps...wrap, wrap, wrap and wrap some more... :D
once the second half moon is completely wrapped then close
the half moon to the center to make a circle once again...
it should look something like this...
cut the yarn leaving a little tail...
hold the circle firmly and cut the loops following the center guide
line of the pom pom maker...continue all the way around...
it should look a bit like this...a bit shaggy... :D
side view...
next cut a piece of yarn, long or short depending on what you will be
using the pom pom for...a long piece gives you a bit more flexibility
when the pom pom is complete for hanging or attaching to something.
i am using a short piece for this example...
next take your string and place it in the center groove of the pom pom
maker...tie the string as tight as you can...then make a knot. it is important
that this is tight as it is what holds all the cut pieces of yarn together.
see how the yarn slides into the center groove??...
next release each half moon one at a time to release the yarn...
after each half moon is opened up release the two circular discs on each
side. take the pom pom in your hands and rub it between your palms. it will
fluff the ends and make it fuller. the pom pom is ready to be trimmed...
use your scissors to trim the scraggly ends to make a ball...don't
cut the two pieces of yarn that you used to tie it together.
they will be used if you want to attach the pom pom to something.
and here it is!! so easy and so much fun!!
try it soon...you will love to do this one!!
